A Dear Edition Magazine is made for one person, from one design: yours. This policy explains what that means for checking your design before you order, for what we print, for cancellations and returns, and for what counts as a defect. It is part of your contract with us, together with our Terms of Service, Returns, Refunds & Cancellation Policy and Shipping & Delivery Policy.
Words such as "Dear Edition", "we", "you", "Magazine", "Order" and "Partners" have the meanings given in our Shipping & Delivery Policy.
Nothing in this policy limits any right you have under the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live.
1. Why your Magazine is a personalised product
Your Magazine is personalised because:
- you choose its content: your photos, your words, your page order and layout, and any text or design our assistant suggests and you keep;
- it is produced only after you order and pay for it, from the version you approved;
- it carries your personal content and cannot be resold to anyone else.
Choosing a format, page count, paper, binding or cover finish from our options does not by itself make a product personalised. What makes your Magazine personalised is the content you put into it.
2. What we produce: the locked version
When you place your Order, we take a copy of your Magazine exactly as it is at that moment. That locked version is the one we produce, and it is the version we compare against when you report a problem. Changes you make in the editor after you order do not change your Order.
Before you order, the checkout shows:
- the format, page count and options you chose;
- any notes from our technical checks (for example a photo with low resolution, an empty frame or text close to the edge), which you can fix in the editor or accept;
- for some papers, that the inside of the front and back covers will be left blank;
- the total price and, where we can calculate them, the estimated delivery dates.
Please read your pages carefully before you order. We do not proofread your text or edit your content.
3. What our checks do and do not do
After payment we create the print file from your locked design and check it technically, for example for page count, page size, fonts and image data. These checks make sure the file can be printed. They do not check spelling, facts, the choice or quality of your photos, or whether your design looks the way you intended. If a technical problem prevents printing, we contact you before anything is produced.
4. What counts as a defect
We are responsible for the quality of the printing, binding and delivery. The following are defects, and you are entitled to a reprint at no cost or a full refund, as you prefer, in addition to your legal rights:
- printing faults: smudged, streaked or misaligned printing, ink that has not set, or a photo printed blurred when the file was sharp;
- binding faults: loose staples, a broken spine, pages coming loose;
- missing, repeated or wrongly ordered pages, or a different page count from the one you ordered;
- a format, paper, binding or finish different from the one you ordered;
- content that differs from your locked version in a way you did not cause, for example text cut off by the printer or a photo on the wrong page;
- damage in transit.
5. What does not count as a defect
Because the content is yours, results that come from content you supplied or approved are not defects:
- spelling, grammar or factual mistakes in text you wrote or approved, including text suggested by our assistant that you kept;
- a photo that prints soft or pixelated because its resolution was low, after the editor or checkout warned you;
- crops, layouts, colours, fonts and page order you chose;
- an empty frame or placeholder you left in the design after being warned;
- content placed in the area close to the page edge or the spine that the editor marks as unsafe, after being warned;
- blank inside covers on a paper option that, as the checkout tells you, does not print them;
- small differences between colours on your screen and colours on paper, and small variations in trimming and paper shade that are normal for the printing process.
If you think the result is not what it should be but you are not sure whether it is a defect, write to us. We will look at it with you and, where a result is borderline, we will lean in your favour.
6. Cancellations and returns for personalised Magazines
Because your Magazine is made to your specifications and is clearly personalised, the legal right to cancel or return a distance purchase for a change of mind does not apply to it once it is being made or has been delivered (see section 4 of our Returns, Refunds & Cancellation Policy). We ask you to confirm that you understand this at checkout.
This exception is limited to changes of mind. In particular:
- you can ask us to cancel after paying and before production starts, and receive a full refund where we are able to stop production (Returns, Refunds & Cancellation Policy, section 3);
- defective, not-as-described, damaged, lost and late Magazines are always reprinted or refunded, in addition to your legal rights;
- items that are not personalised, such as a gift box, a gift card, or a product made from one of our templates that you have not personalised in any way, keep the normal withdrawal rules of your country.
7. Reprints and extra copies
- A reprint for a defect is made from the same locked version as your original Order. We cannot change the content in a reprint. If you want a different version, place a new Order.
- Extra copies of the same Magazine, where offered, are also personalised products and follow this policy.
8. Your content
You are responsible for having the rights to the photos, text and other material you put in your Magazine, including the permission of the people who appear in it. Our User Content & IP Policy and Terms of Service explain what content is not allowed. If we discover content that is clearly unlawful while preparing your Order, we may stop the Order and contact you; if the problem is not fixed, we cancel the Order and refund you in full.
We use your content only to produce and deliver your Order, to handle any problem you report, and as described in our Privacy Policy. Our Partners receive your print file only to produce your Magazine. We never use your content in our marketing without your separate permission.
If our assistant helped you write or design your Magazine, our AI Terms apply to that help. You decide what goes into your Magazine, and what you approve at checkout is what we produce.
